Murrieta is a city in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 44,282 at the 2000 census. Population was estimated to be 77,661 by the California Department of Finance in 2004. This makes it one of the fastest growing cities in the state.
Murrieta was settled first in 1863 by Spaniard Don Juan Murrieta, who fell in love with the area filled with oak, sycamore, and grasses on rolling foothills. He brought flocks of over 100,000 sheep to the valley.
